Cole Newlove: Busy Polar Bear

Majors/Minors

Ohio Northern University third-year pharmacy student Cole Newlove is busy.

Yes, with academics, for sure, but he’s also the resident director of Founders Hall; house manager for the Freed Center; and a member of marching band, symphonic orchestra, percussion ensemble, Northern Christian Fellowship, Christian Pharmacists Fellowship International, and Pharmacy Council.

His faith is the driving force behind every endeavor.

“My faith is paramount to my life, and it guides everything I do. In both my future career and hobbies, I hope I am able to show others the love Christ has shown me.”

A music minor, Cole is active in ONU’s music community.

He is the assistant music director for ONU’s upcoming production of “Hello, Dolly!” And last year, he was a winner of ONU’s bi-annual concerto competition, which afforded him the opportunity to perform as a soloist in the ONU symphonic orchestra’s spring 2024 concert, presenting a piano concerto from Shostakovich. He remembers this moment fondly.

“The Freed mainstage, the lights gleaming off the piano, my family and friends looking on, the orchestra singing – it was a check off the bucket list and more. I can’t imagine that experience being accessible to a non-music major at many other universities in the country.”

Cole grew up in Tiffin and is a graduate of Columbian High School. Though a pharmacy major, he’s a lover of math and chose engineering as his major before realizing he was destined for something different.

He comes from a family of healthcare workers “so medicine always seemed like a logical route to me” and a chance to “help others live their best life.”

He is grateful for ONU and has a message for future students: “There is no finer pharmacy education than here at Ohio Northern. You’ll connect with faculty and students alike, while being a part of a sizable pharmacy class and partaking in the many sports, music ensembles, and clubs that keep the experience fresh and active. Go for it. Life is your prescription—fill it!”
